Malappuram: The district is in high concern after the source of the pandemic left untraced for the 5 health care persons including two doctors tested positive to COVID in Edappal in the district today. Minister KT Jaleel said the swab samples of the COVID confirmed persons in Edappal will send for test to distance the apprehension over social transmission in the district. The minister earlier dismissed the chance of social transmission in Edappl.
The district administration has decided to urge government over declaring 47 wards in the Ponnani Municipality including Panchayaths,Vattamkulum, Maranchery, Alankode and Edappal as containment zones. The district authority has decided to conduct random checking on around 1000 people in these four panchayaths. The district authority decided to impose stringent curb analogues to that of curb in the earlier period of lockdown. District collector informed after the urgent meeting convened at the collectorate over the COVID cases with untraced source reported in the district.
The five health care persons tested positive to COVID 19 work at a private hospital in Edappal. The district reports the biggest number of COVID patients in the state with maximum number of cases with decease infected through contact. On Saturday, the district reported 10 COVID confirmed cases of the 15 in the state infected through contact.
The two gramapachayaths, Edappal and Vattamkulum from where the COVID cases reported are nearby and the matter intensify the concern over social transmission. Though the minister dismissed the chance of social transmission in the district the people worry over.
