Kannur: In a controversial statement MV Jayarajan, CPI (M) Kannur district secretary said those who wear Purdha covering face should not be allowed to cast vote in the re-polling to be held in Kasaragod and Kannur constituencies on Sunday.
The voters wearing pardha should be asked to remove face cover even when they are in queue to vote itself and should be asked to cast vote in a way to have marked their face clearly on camera. He asked Election Commission whether the poll body is ready to have conducted poll as he was recommended. Jayarajan said that if the poll body was ready to follow the modus operandi recommended by the CPI (M) leader over the voters wearing Pardha, LDF would win majority votes in all the polling centers.
The statement made by MV Jayarajan sparked wide scale controversies and Muslim League retorted against Jayarajan that the statement of the CPI (M) leader to have racked up the communal attitude of the communist leader.
After the statement triggered controversies, CPI (M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and PK Sreemathy teacher, CPI(M) leader and sitting MP came forward to defend Jayarajan. Kodiyeri said the problem is not over wearing Pardha or arriving at poll centres wearing Pardha, but over covering face while casting vote. PK Sreemathy teacher asked how the voter can be identified in face masque and that should be removed to be revealed identity.
