The United States has banned government agencies from hiring people on H-1B visas on a contract basis. The order was signed by President Donald Trump. Trump has stated that the administration will not allow the move to deprive hard-working Americans of opportunities for foreigners.
US President Donald Trump in a Meeting with U.S. Tech Workers and Signing of an Executive Order on Hiring American, the H-1B visa ban is implemented.
The major beneficiaries of the H-1B visa were Indian IT professionals. Employees from countries such as India and China are employed on this visa in the US every year. Hence the new order will be a heavy blow to India.
Meanwhile, Trump fired the head of the Tennessee Valley Authority, a federal agency, for opposing the hiring of foreign workers. The Tennis Valley Authority had earlier announced that 20 per cent of the opportunities in the technology sector would be outsourced to companies from foreign countries.
More than 200 professional Americans have lost their jobs in The Tennessee Valley following TVA’s action, the White House briefings mentioned.
Trump also ordered TVA to immediately appoint a new chairman who will protect the interests of Americans.
“The Tennessee Valley Authority leadership then ordered the American workers to train their foreign replacements, rubbing salt in their very open wound”, said Donald Trump against the action of The Tennessee Valley Authority Leadership.
“We believe jobs must be offered to American workers first,” Donald Trump stated.
“And today I’m signing an executive order to ensure that the federal government lives by a very simple rule: Hire American. We’ve been doing it at a level that hasn’t been done maybe ever”, Donald Trump stated in a Press conference by signing an executive order.
