Thrissur: Thrissur Pooram, ‘pooram of Poorams’ (festival of festivals) began to render flamboyant festivity after Thechikottukavu Ramachandran, the most beloved tusker in Kerala proclaimed Pooram at ‘Pooravilambam’ on Sunday.
Thrissur Pooram is known over the world for percussion, elephants, parasols, fireworks, the sea of throng and the unique rhythmic experience to be conveyed by altogether.
Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, the Chenda maestro in Kerala leads the Ilanjithramelam to create experience of rhythm in percussion. The rhythm of human sea sprawling over wide temple premise joins to the rhythms of percussion to render a wonderful experience.
Marar, the chief percussionist fell unconscious while performing ‘Pandivadyam’ in the morning and was hospitalized. He came out after recovering to lead Ilanjithramelam and the melam is going on at temple with all its majesty.
