Kochi: As a recent development over the tusker Ramachandran row, Advocate General has given legal advise to the government that Thechikottukavu Ramachandran can be paraded at a function at the eve at Thrissur Pooram. On forwarding the legal advice, AG said that the parade will be held under stringent security measures and it would not be taken as a token of custom in coming years to pursue.
However, Kerala High Court said that the panel headed by the collector is to take final decision over the matter while considering the petition filed against the ban imposed by Collector Anupama IAS. The HC has said it will not interfere over the ban on parading tusker Thechikottukavu Ramachandran, the tusker owned by Thechikottukavu Devaswom in Thrissur Pooram to be held on May 13, 14.
The row over the issue sparked controversy when elephant owners association said that they would not be provided elephants to Thrissur Pooram or other festivals till the ban on Thechikottukavu Ramachandran annulled. The discussion held between elephant owners and ministers is reported to be positive, yet failed to have reached at consensus and waiting for the court order.
The elephant was barred from parading after it run amok at Guruvayoor temple killing two people, when fire crackers were burst nearby it. On Thursday the collector already informed that elephants run amok on hearing the sounds of fire crackers, elephants in musth or aggressive elephants should not be paraded at festivals. The ban, the collector said would be effective from May12 to May 14, the date of Thrissur Pooram to be held.
As per the ban imposed by collector, Thechikottukavu Ramachandran would not be parading at Thrissur Pooram but would parade at a function at the eve of Pooram. However, the collector has to take final decision over the matter.
KB Ganesh Kumar MLA who take part at the meeting as elephant owner responded positive over the discussion and the he was optimistic on court’s order to come on Friday.
Ganesh Kumar dismissed the rumor over Thechikottukavu Ramachandran’s illness and the tusker could not consume food, he said Rs 36 lakh is needed to meet the expenditure to provide food and 4 mahouts of the tusker in a year.
