In s significant move, the family of the Periya murder case victims, Sharathlal and Kripesh have submitted an affidavit against the DGP alleging contempt of court. The family has submitted an affidavit questioning the DGP for not handing over the evidence collected through investigation. The Division Bench of the High Court to consider the appeal. The family moved to the Division Bench as there was no further proceeding when had approached the single bench earlier.
In another development in the Periya case, the Kerala government has submitted a letter to the Supreme Court registrar appealing for an immediate consideration the plea challenging the Kerala High court verdict directing CBI probe into the Periya twin murder of Youth Congress workers.
The state government has filed a plea challenging the Kerala High court verdict which allowed CBI to take over the plea Periya twin murder case in which two Youth Congress workers hacked to death in Ksaragode in the state in which Congress and the victims’ family alleged the involvement of CPI(M).
The government sent a letter to the apex court for the immediate consideration of the plea challenging the High Court order which points out the charge sheet had already been submitted in the case by the local police. The government has argued that there was no lapse over the investigation of the case and so asked the court to allow the state police for further proceedings of the case. The state government is reinforcing its stand that an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation is not required in the case.
A couple of days back Kerala government has moved to the Supreme Court against the Kerala High Court order allowing the CBI probe into the Periya twin murder case in Kasaragod. Earlier, last month, the government faced a setback when the High Court had issued a verdict that will allow the Periya murder case to take over the case by the CBI. The Division Bench of High Court has passed the verdict by dismissing the state government’s plea challenging the Single bench verdict allowing the CBI probe into the sensational case.
Kerala government has been widely flayed for its bid to subvert the CBI probe into the Periya murder case in which senior CPI(M) leaders are involved. The Government had hired senior Supreme Court lawyers to content against the taking over by the CBI. The state government has widely been flayed by the opposition parties for spending crores over trying to stop the CBI probe into the gruesome murder of two Youth Congress workers.
Kripesh and Sharathlal, the two Youth Congress workers were hacked to death by a group of people who arrived in a vehicle at Periya Kerala’s Kasaragod in 2019 February 17. Kripesh, 21 had died at the spot, and Sharathlal, 24, succumbed to the injuries on his way to the hospital. A local leader of CPI(M), Pithabaran had been arrested over the case, and the Congress party and the family of the victims alleged a high-level political conspiracy in which CPI(M) leaders involved. Pithambaran alone could not conduct such a planned murder and the top brass involvement should be brought out.
