The Goods and Service Tax department said that it has attached the bank accounts of Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu to recover the tax dues.
The press release issued by GST Commissionerate states that, actor Mahesh Babu had not paid the service tax during 2007-08 for the taxable services which the actor rendered like brand promotion, advertising, brand ambassador, appearance money for the promotion of products among others.
“The total tax due from him was Rs 1.85 million or Rs 18.5 lakh. The GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis Bank and ICICI Bank for an amount of Rs 7.35 million (Rs 73.5 lakh), which includes tax, interest and penalty”.
“ We have attached the bank accounts and started recovering. We have recovered Rs 4.2 million (Rs 42 lakh) from Axis Bank today. Balance, ICICI bank has to pay by on Friday.” stated the press release.
The actor cannot operate his bank account until the tax dues are cleared. Currently the actor is busy working with the movie “Maharshi”. The project is special in the career of 43- year old actor as this is his 25th project.
