Saroj khan, the masterji of Bollywood stars, the legendary choreographer who worked for 2000 plus songs over a carrier spanning over four decades passes away, an era of Bollywood silver screen ends. The amazingly catching dance scenes which have a permanent appeal on the audience left to remember Khan in the future days.
She was born and brought up in cinema as she entered the field at the age of three as a child artist. Though she started working in the field in 1974, her ever time hits come out in the 80s and 90s with Sree Devi and Madhuri Dixit. The legendary choreographer’s combination with Madhuri created unique magic in the Bollywood silvers screen. The peppy songs, ‘Ek Do Teen’, ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga’ which demanded tough dance movements, squeezed the silver screen with real magic. As Akshay Kumar commented over Khan’s death, ” she made the dance look easy as almost everybody caN dance”. No one can keep away from stepping with Madhuri when she dances with the Ek Do Teen song. The fantastic dance which marked Madhuri as the dancing doll of Bollywood created nostalgia not only for a particular generation but for all the generations left behind. Mohini, Madhuri’s character in the film was forced to dance amid a crowd of men and the dance which would have thrown into sleazoid, elevated to the heights of classic beauty when handled by the master hand of Sarojkhan. It was told, the song that took almost 17 days to complete the shooting.
The ‘Hwa Hawai’ song in ‘Mr. India’ choreographed for Sree Devi, where Sree Devi played the role of journalist disguising herself as a Hawaii dancer she entered into the underworld of dons. The peppy song transformed into a classic when touched by the master hand of Sarojkhan and the mesmerizing performance of Sree Devi.
The iconic song ‘Dola Re….’ in ‘Devadas’, performed by Madhuri and Aishwarya Rai together is classic performance marked permanent appeal over time. The two lovers of Devadas, one loves him as his ‘Dasi’, Madhuri’s character and the other on whom Devdas attributes love as a ‘Dasan’, Aishwarya Rai’s character are dancing together. The dance unfolds their love to Devadas, their different attitude of love to Devdas is conveyed with all its sublimity and beauty in the dance choreographed by Sarojkhan.
The words of Madhuri Dixit on Sarojkhan’s departure will mark legendary choreographer, ”the world had lost an amazingly talented person”, she is the master who ‘immortalized the stars’.
