New Delhi: Ram Jethmalani, reputed lawyer and former Union Minister passed away at his official residence on Sunday at 7.45 am. He was 95. He was living with medical support since last two weeks. He was passed away a few days before his 96th birthday. He was survived by his son Mahesh Jethmalani and a daughter. His funeral will take place in the evening today at Lodhi road crematorium, his son Mahesh Jethmalani said.
Ram Bhoolchand Jethmalani, the acclaimed lawyer who argued many landmark cases started his carrier at an early age of 18. With brilliant track records in academic education Jethmalani completed his matriculation at an early age of 13. He won double promotion in schools and won LLB degree at an early age of 17. With special resolution he become a lawyer at the age of 18 where as it was allowed to be at 21 legally.
The well-known cases include defense of Rajeev Gandhi’s killer in Madrass High Court, Harshad Mehta and Ketan Parekh in Stock Market scams, defense of Afzal Guru’s death sentence, defended Manu Sharma in Jessica lal murder case. He was elected as President of Supreme Court Bar Association in 2010. He was elected as parliament member from 6th and 7th Loksabha from Mumbai. He was union law minister for Law and Urban Development in Vajpayee Ministry. Jethmalani contested against Vajpayee in 2004 Loksabha election.
