Thiruvananthapuram: The state government’s decision to deploy police to implement COVID preventive activities triggered protests from the health sector.
Health workers including the doctors expressed dissent against the move and asked the government to refrain from the decision. Health workers, as they know more about handling the decease, should not be replaced by the COVID preventive mechanism. They expressed concern that the decision would weaken the confidence of the health workers. They accused the government did not have provided basic requirements to the health workers which resulted in the high spreading of the pandemic among them.
The organizations including IMA, (Indian Medical Association), KGMOA, Kerala Government Medical Officers Association, and health inspectors openly expressed dissent over the government move.
The COVID preventive measures including detecting the containment zones identify the primary and secondary contacts that are entrusted on police. On Monday, Chief Minister informed the decision at his daily briefing over corona after the high-level meeting to evaluate the pandemic.
