Srinagar: The protest over the Bandipora rape turned violent after the protesters pelted stones at security forces in Srinagar. The students at Amar Singh College agitated over the rape of a minor girl on May 9 in which the Kashmir valley is broiling over since the day.
The girl was allegedly raped by a local boy Tahir Ahmad in Sumbal area in Bandipora district in north Kashmir and was arrested in connection with the case. Satya Pal Malik, the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to complete the investigation in fast track model.
A separate inquiry is ordered to clear the authenticity over the age of the minor victim. The divisional commissioner Kashmir and Police IG are personally directed to supervise the investigation. The governor asked public to be diligent and abstain from rumors that breach the law and order in the state.
