New Delhi: Prakash Karat, former CPI (M) General Secretary, criticized government over the arrest of two students over Maoist link. No one can be arrested for being kept pamphlets or books with particular ideologies. Police misused the law by imposing UAPA on the students Allen Shuhaib and Taha Fazal.
Allen Shuhaib and Taha Fazal, a law student and a Journalism student respectively were arrested over alleged Maoist connection. The duo and their family are CPI (M) workers and the party decided to form a3-member committee to probe over the matter. The court denied bail to them by confirming their Maoist connection. Police FIR over the case hold strong evidence to prove the students’ Maoist link.
