Kochi: Bartholomew Ogbeche scored his first brace, as Kerala Blasters beat ATK in the Indian Super League (ISL) opener.
The two time champion ATK started off the proceedings and gave an early shock to the home side. Carl McHugh put ATK in font in the sixth minute.
In the 30th minute Blasters won penalty as Jairo Rodrigues claimed that he was pulled back by ATK’s Pranoy Halder inside the box. Without any mistake Ogbeche scored his first goal of the season from the spot.
Blasters second goal came just before the first half. With a stunning first time finish, Ogbeche put Blasters in front.
ATK’s forward Roy Krishna remained as a threat to Blasters. He made couple of solo runs but failed convert those inside the box.
Blasters Manager Eelco Shattorie was impressed with the performance. “The only way ATK became dangerous was through free-kicks. We gave them some stupid free-kicks. Overall the defense was good, I think,” Shattorie said after the game.
Kerala Blasters will take Mumbai City FC on Thursday at Kochi.
