Thirvananthapuram: With in 24 hours the National Investigation Agency taking over the case, the key accused Swapana Suresh and aide Sandeep Nair detained by the NIA sleuths in Bangalore on Saturday evening.
Swapna, the second accused, a former employee at UAE consulate and currently employed at the state IT department is the key accused in the case of sneaking 33 kg gold through diplomatic baggage . Swapana was on run after the gold seized by the customs on July 5.
Swapna was detained along with co-accused Fazil Fareed and Sandeep Nair, the brother of Sarith. The NIA sleuths reportedly revealed that Swapna and Sandeep arrived in Bangalore by road and they were on search for a place of perch to avoid arrest. The accused trio and Swapna’s family including two minor children reached in Benguluru. Swapna was reportedly detained at a hotel in Korangapara in BTM layout area while Sandeep was detained at house he was staying in Korangapara. Banglore Mirror reports citing NIA sources. NIA was closely watching her route after taking over the case and Swapna released the video clips after reaching Benguluru. NIA likely to record her arrest after interrogation, sources said.
Swapna is alleged to have used her position at UAE consulate to forge document to help smuggling racketeers to sneak gold from Gulf Countries to India.
