After the success of Indian series ‘Sacred Games’, Netflix is set to make another Indian series based on the global blockbuster franchise, Bahubali. Netflix announced this on Thursday.
It will be an adaptation from Anand Neelakantan’s book ‘The Rise Of Sivagami’ , a prequel novel to the 2015 film.
The season one of the Bahubali series includes nine episodes based on the book ‘ The Rise of Sivagami’, which tells the story of Mahishmati’s queen Sivagami ‘s journey and how the city evolved into an empire.
S.S. Rajamouli, who directed both the instalments of hit franchise- Bahubali : The Beginning (2015) and Bahubali-2 : The Conclusion (2017) has tied up with Arka Media Works and Netflix for the series.
Director SS Rajamouli said in a statement, “The world of Baahubali is extensive and immersive with strong characters and larger than life kingdoms. The films Baahubali -The Beginning and The Conclusion, are from one story set in this world and more dramatic stories were broadly conceived while building the universe. The Baahubali Series, a prequel to the films, is one such story. I am very excited that this is being adapted as a Netflix Original Series. With Netflix as our partner, we have the opportunity to create a rich and riveting series and take this quintessential Indian epic to the world, which is very gratifying to me as a story-teller.”
The two Bahubali movies were shot back to back which grossed 270 million dollars at the global box office. It is the highest grossing film franchise from India.
Casting and other details related to release have not been disclosed yet.
