Malappuram: Malappuram left under the apprehension of social transmission of COVID as five health care professionals including two doctors in Ponnani Taluk in the district tested positive for the pandemic and the source of infection left untraced.
For the last three consecutive days, the district reported the highest number of COVID positive cases in the state. Besides, the number of people confirmed the deadly epidemic through contact increases in the district each day.
Around 80,000 persons who visited the hospital where doctors and health care professionals tested positive for COVID are reportedly under observation. Of the two doctors tested positive, one is reportedly a pediatrician and among the recently reported positive cases in the area below one year, old kids included. Two hospitals in the Ponnani Taluk shut down completely as one of the doctors tested positive worked at the two hospitals.
Currently, 280 persons are under treatment for the pandemic in the district, and of them 169 undergoing treatment at Mancheri Medical college. 42 persons are under treatment in Safa kalikkavu and 7 are under treatment at Science Institute Boys Hostal.district collector informed. The district exudes a spurt in COVID cases and the number of cases soared 47 in the district last Sunday. 12 cases with untraced sources are reported from the district.
