Thiruvananthapuram: The state in jittery over the alarmingly increasing number of COVID positive cases and the augmenting number of infected through contact and the increasing number of cases with untraced source. The state capital city has completely been shut down as the government declared triple lock down for one week in the area on Sunday. The secretariat shut down and the transportation to the Tiruvananthapuram city banned completely. The shops are shut down including medical shops and shops selling essentials. Only one shop is allowed to function in the area and people could contact the police to buy the essentials. The busy markets in the state capital including the Chala market, one of the biggest market in the state has been shut down on Saturday itself.
To address the critical situation people are asked to follow the health guidelines directed by the authority. Government brought amendment on epidemic act to insist masque mandatory for people in public places and work places.Those who do not wear masques will be punished with two year jail term and a fine of RS 10,000.
Despite the ruling capital, the commercial capital of the state , Kochi is also under the apprehension of spreading the highly contaminating deadly epidemic . Stringent curb has been imposed in Kochi since Saturday on wards. Chabakkara market , the biggest fish market from where two persons with untraced source of COVID detected ,has been locked down by the district authority. Though triple lock down is not declared in Kochi, the situation is tantamount to that. Vehicles are reportedly rarely seen on the roads and people are not seen out side in public places.The meeting of film organisation AMMA scheduled to be held on Sunday has been canceled after protest from political parties.
The situation is Palakkad, where the highest number of single day COVID positive cases reported on last day was also under alert. Besides, another grave situation is incurred by the district with increasing number COVID infected below 20 years. Being the border district , the inter-state travel are recurrent and cases infected from those who came back from other state is also lead to the increasing number of positive cases in the district.
Malappuram, the district alerted over social transmission of the pandemic as Ponnani Taluk where triple lock down declared for last week till today, July 6. Two hospitals in the Taluk shut down as health professionals including two doctors infected COVID. Around 20,000 persons were included in the contact list of the doctors and 80,000 people are under observation. For a relief to the district, over 500 people upon whom rapid test conducted turned negative to the pandemic. People are strictly prohibited from going out in the district and despite police CRPF personals were launched to keep away people from violating COVID guidelines and rules.
The situation is on the edge of social transmission in other districts in Malabar area , Kannur and Kozhikode. In kannur since the report of the death of a 28 years old man, on whom the source of the pandemic left untraced, the fear over social transmission remains strong in the district. In Kozhikode five persons in a flat confirmed COVID with unknown source on Sunday.
To add more to the panic situation in the state, the recovery rate exudes a sudden slash comparing to the spike in the positive cases.The death rate reached 27 in the state. On last day when 225 positive cases reported, only 120 recovery rates were reported. The spurt in positive cases and the debacle in recovery rate altogether create frightening crisis in the state. Despite, the genetic change for the deadly virus is also reported from the state. People infected the pandemic are easily drawn to the worst physical state with in a short span in the recently reported cases. The virus targets not only the aged, but the youngsters and children, is the another fact to be alerted.
