Kottayam: On Monday, The UDF expelled Jose K Mani faction in Kerala Congress (M) over refusing to step down from the post of Kottayam District Panchayath President.
As per the agreement, the nominee of Jose K Mani’s faction would go out and allow Joseph faction’s nominee to assume the post. Jose K Mani’s faction dismissed the existence of such an agreement publically challenging the UDF decision.
‘They don’t deserve to be in UDF’, UDF convenor Benny Behanan announced the decision to dismiss Jose K Mani faction. Further action over the matter will be discussed at the UDF steering committee meeting to be held on July 1. Behanan said we have not invited Jose K Mani’s faction to the UDF meeting.
The inner fight between the two factions has been broiling in Kerala congress since the death of veteran K M Mani, the founder chairman of the party. In a spree of the meeting conducted in the last two weeks to resolve the inner conflict in Kerala congress over the matter, The UDF leaders, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Muslim League leader P K Kunnalikutty made discussion with Jose K Mani faction. Oommen Chandy reportedly requested Jose K Mani to handover the post of Kottayam district Panchayath President to Joseph faction.
