Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a letter to the Prime Minister alleged there was no serious interference from the government and the International Law of Tribunal over the case of two fishermen killed ruthlessly by the Italian marines in 2012 . He expressed shock over the order passed by International Tribunal that the case cannot be trialed at Indian courts. He urged Prime Minister to interfere over the case in order to procure a verdict which is suitable to provide justice to the Keralite fishermen killed by the Italian marines.
He said whatever be the legal maze in international law, the verdict passed by the Tribunal saddened the relatives of the victims and the people in Kerala, Chief Minister said in his letter.According to the affidavit submitted by the Central Government in supreme court, appeal cannot be lodged against the verdict issued by the Tribunal. He asked Prime Minister to have taken required measures ensuring equitable justice to the fishermen through the trial to be held in the Italian court.
