Thiruvananthapuram: The government handed over compensation to scientist Nambi Narayanan in the ISRO espionage case. One crore and thirty lakh rupees were handed over, in addition to the Rs 60 lakh already handed over.
The amount was paid on the recommendation of the Committee by Former Chief Secretary K Jayakumar. The government handed over the compensation to Nambi Narayanan, the victim in the ISRO espionage case, as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
Nambi Narayanan, a victim of unlawful arrest and torture in juncture with an espionage case, was given Rs 50 lakh by the government as per the Supreme Court judgment of September 14, 2018. Rs 10 lakh was endorsed by the National Human Rights Commission.
The case was closed on January 14. As per the settlement talks with Nambi Narayanan, the contract was to buy Rs 10 lakh each from the opposition.
