Indian women always had a stigma to speak up about the periods. Many girls in villages have not even heard about it until it starts getting themselves.
But, now the things are slowly changing as women in villages are getting educated about the periods and the hygiene steps to be followed during the time. In many villages, small sanitary pads making units are set. These units have become a mode of income to the women and also a road to Oscars !!
A woman from a village called Kathikhera village from Hapur district is going to attend the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles. Sneh (22) a college student is a worker in sanitary pad making unit.
Period. End of Sentence, a documentary made about the women and periods in this village has been nominated for an Oscars. The documentary film was made by a bunch of students from North Hollywood, crowdfunded to send Iranian-American filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi and a pad making machine to the village.
The documentary, which is available on Netflix, is nominated in the Best short documentary category at Oscars.
In the documentary, the lives of women working in this pad making units are described. Sneh was one among them, she works in the small factory and is a protagonist of Period. End of Sentence. The pad making unit was set by Action India, a charity that works on reproductive health.
Sneh, from Kathikhera will attend the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles representing the women of her village.
