As Indian opener Rohit Sharma hit his first double century in Test cricket, the innings also smashed few records.
Rohit became the first Indian batsman to score more than 400 runs in a test series against South Africa. The Right handed opener has now 529 runs in the ongoing series, with three centuries including one double century. Mohammad Azharuddin’s 388 runs were the previous best for India.
Rohit has hit 19 sixes in the series, the most number of sixes by any player in a single Test series.
The Right handed opening batsman also became the fastest to hit 50 sixes in Test cricket. Rohit has taken only 51 innings to reach this record. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was the fastest before (78 innings).
With the maiden double century, Rohit became only the fourth opener to hit nine centuries in a single calendar year in International cricket. Five out of this came in ICC World Cup 2019, where he became the top scorer of the tournament.
