New Delhi: The government sought explanation to WhatsApp over hacking data of twenty persons in India including Media persons and human right activists. The tapping of data reported to have taken place during general election 2019.
WhatsApp revealed data of 1400 persons across the world to have hacked by Pegasus, spy software, created by Israel Cyber Technology Company. Among the 20 Indians subjected to siphoning include Bella Bhatia, human right activist, and advocate Nihar Singh Rathode, who represents the accused in Bhima Koregaon violence and Media person Siddhartha Sibal.
Government informed that it has clear procedures and laws to gather information and curb social Medias. The government demanded WhatsApp to give explanation over the matter by 7th of this month.
