Thiruvananthapuram: National Investigation Agency informed in the court that Swapna Suresh, key the accused in the diplomatic parcel gold smuggling case consented to have a ‘casual association relationship’ with the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. NIA made these crucial revelations while the court considering the bail plea submitted by Swapna Suresh over the seizure of 30Kg gold through diplomatic channel by the customs on July 6.
During the interrogation, Swapna revealed that she was closely associated with top brass political figures in the state. Swapan informed to the NIA, that for her, Shiv Shankar, the former Principal Secretary to the chief minister was a mentor. She consented that the former IT Secretary had helped her to obtain a top profiled job in the IT department. Swapna’s lawyer who earlier denied her nexus with top-brass political figures, today confessed that the accused had relations with high profiled political figures including the chief minister.
Swapna revealed the gold smuggling racket to have indulged in anti-national activities that would undermine the economy of the nation. She said the accused in the gold smuggling case to have a connection with the drug mafia in the African countries particularly Tanzania.
Associate solicitor General Vijayakumar appeared for NIA in the court for opposing the bail plea submitted bySwapna.
The NIA submitted the statements given by Swapna during interrogation to the special Court a couple of days before.
IT Secretary Shiva Shankar earlier denied NIA to have any relation with Swapna beyond friendship. The chief minister also dismissed any acquaintance with Swapna. The senior IAS officer dismissed to have any acquaintance with Swapna Suresh during the interrogation by the Customs.
