Srinagar: Former IAS officer Shah Faesal has resigned as President of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM). The party have appointed Feroze Peerzada as the interim president.
Shah Faesal established his own party previous year after resigning from the civil service. The JKPM said in a statement that Shah Faesal had demanded that he could not proceed with his political pursuits.
His twitter bio stated on Sunday evening, “Edward S Fellow @HKS Harvard University, Medico. Fulbright. Centrist.” He dropped his political position in the Twitter bio.
The JKPM executive committee, which convened to review the continuing political developments in the state, received Shah’s resignation.
In 2018, he had taken a leave of one year to migrate for studies to Harvard University in the US. Shah Faesal topped in the Civil Service Exam 2010. He left the civil service in 2019 and announced his entry into politics as part of a series of protests upon the continuous bloodshed and discrimination confronted by Muslims in Kashmir.
He had also strongly protested against the transit to take away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Shah Faesal was detained after the revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, he was released.
