New Delhi: On Wednesday, the congress flayed Election Commission as biased over curtailing the campaigning by one day due to violence in 9 constituencies in West Bengal. The party accused the poll body to have committed ‘’an unpardonable betrayal of the constitution’’.
The party spokes person Randeep Sigh Surjewala lashing at EC said that the direction will permit Prime Minister Narendra Modi to campaign while meeting of the other leaders will be curbed. The Congress person jibed that the model code of conduct is changed to have called ‘Modi code of conduct’
Condemning the incident, ‘a day a dark in the history of Indian democracy’ and EC’s action in West Bengal ‘negates the due process under Art 14 and 21,’ Congress spokes person said ‘ it abdicates its constitutional duty under Art 324 to ensure level playing field’.
Surjewala accused EC not to have taken action against PM Modi and BJP President AmitShah over 11 complaints lodged by Congress to the EC. He alleged EC to have stooped to lower level from its independent status.
The election commission cut the campaigning by a day in 9 constituencies in West Bengal on Wednesday after the BJP-TMC violence in the state.
