Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Cyclone ‘Fani’ formed at Bay of Bengal transformed in to severe cyclonic storm and made land fall in Odisha around 10.30 am. The cyclone Fani is lashing at Puri district with a speed 200 kmph intensifying from its initial speed 175 kmph. It is the first severe cyclonic storm hit at the nation since 1976.
The nation is under close vigilance to meet one of the largest natural calamities ever faced in the history. Around 11.55 lakhs people were evacuated from 11 vulnerable districts in the state. No causalities are reported yet in the state. Heavy rain is pouring upon Odisha which is likely to lead to a devastating flood. Land slides are also being seen in several parts of the state. The state is under stringent alert. Rescue centers are set up and hundreds of kitchens are prepared in the centers. The government is all set to focus on saving life.
The code of conduct in ongoing election is revoked in the state in the back drop of cyclonic storm. Chief Minister Navin Patnaik is under deliberation to ask for deferring election in the state.
