Malappuram: The district authority announced a triple lockdown in Ponnani Taluk in Malappuram district from June 29 from 5 pm to July 6 midnight due to the apprehension of social transmission after the source left untraced for the nine persons including health care professionals tested positive for COVID19.
All institutions except shops sell essentials, including state and central government offices and private intuitions were asked to have closed down during the lockdown period. The intuitions which keep open should comprise minimum staff to function. Even as the public were asked not to go outside even for buying things. Police are entrusted to have reached out to essential things at homes to the needy. The petrol pumps in Ponnani announced to be kept open as state highways are passing through the area. Even as the transportation in Ponnani limited through five points by locking down all other routes including Chamravattam Bridge.
The police set to strengthen checking in the area using drawn. The special team will observe people under COVID observation.
Of the five health care professional confirmed COVID positive, two doctors included. The doctors reported having made contact with around 20,000 persons after tested positive to the pandemic. The test conducted among several people in the area detected to have confirmed pandemic for many including the doctors. It was reported then that there might be error over conducting the test which reportedly led doctors to pursue duties.
