Ernakulum: Chambakkara market in Ernakulum shut down after two persons, the wife of a fishermen in the market tested positive for the COVID and the source of the pandemic left untraced for the patient.
District collector declared the area as containment zone and conducted search in the market on today morning at 5.30 am. Around 50 persons were arrested for not wearing masques and not keeping social distancing in the busy market place where thousands visit each day. Seventy five (75) persons are under observation and their swab sent for test. Two hospitals, where the wife of fisher man undergone treatment, a private hospital and Ernakulum general hospital are closed down. The district authority decided to withdraw the travel relaxation allowed in the district after unlock.
Token system will be implemented in the market from Monday. The other state fish merchants reach at the market will be allowed to stay at market for a specified period of time and people are not allowed at the market during the time. The measures are taken to avoid the social mixing and mingling of other state merchants with local people.
