Jammu and Kashmir: Congress announced that it would boycott the forthcoming Block Development Elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir on October 34. The first election in Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 revoked. ‘Block Development Elections are meant to facilitate ruling party. Our leaders are under detention. We have to announce that we are boycotting the elections’, Gulam Ahammad Mir said at a press conference held at here.
Mir said, today that they were compelled to take decision to boycott BDC polls due to indifferent attitude of the state administration and detention of the senior party leaders in the valley. He alleged that state administration deliberately make hurdles for main political parties in order to win ruling BJP.
Earlier Congress decided to have taken part in BDC polls. But the administration did not release the leaders after the date of nomination papers to be filed. Former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mahabooba Mufti were under detention after the scrapping of Article 370.
