The Union Cabinet gave clearance to the ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission on Friday. Gaganyaan is ISRO’s ambitious project under which three Indian astronauts will be sent to space for up to seven days.
The cabinet has approved a budget of Rs.10,000 crores for this project. The mission is planned to execute on 2022.
The Gaganyaan project was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence day this year. If it is successfully executed, India will be the fourth country in the world to independently send humans to space . The first astronaut from India to go to space was Rakesh Sharma in 1984 on a spacecraft of Russia.
India has already entered into agreement with Russia and France for assistance in Gaganyaan Project.
