Rome: The new successor to the European Golden Boot from Italy, Lazio star Ciro Immobile wins the award this time. Immobile won the Golden Boot for the 2019-20 season with a goal against Napoli in the final match of Serie A. He has scored 36 goals this season.
Bayern Munich’s Roberto Lewandowski’s record of 34 goals was broken in the last match by Immobile. He also owns the record for most goals scored in a single season in Italy (Golden Shoe) with 36 goals while Gonzalo Higuain also scored 36 goals for Napoli in the 2015-16 season. The last Italian to win the Golden Boot was Roma’s Francisco Totti in the 2006-07 season.
The Golden Shoe Awards have not left Spanish clubs since 2007. In Italy, Cristiano Ronaldo is second with 31 goals and Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku is third with 23 goals. Messi is the top scorer in the Spanish league with 25 goals.
In the final match against Roma, Lazio lost 3-1. Despite the defeat, Lazio finished fourth in the league and qualified for the Champions League.
